PLANES, TRAINS, AND AUTOMOBILES:

TRAVEL TIPS FOR PEOPLE WITH HEARING LOSS

Presented by Tina Childress

What if I don’t hear the gate change? Can I go through the X-ray machine with my Cochlear Implant(s) and/or Hearing Aid(s)? What happens if I get in an accident and I can’t communicate with emergency personnel? What if there’s a fire at the hotel? When you have hearing loss, these concerns are ever-present. We’ll discuss different modes of travel, lodging and ways to be safe on the road. Come and discover some strategies for being a savvy traveler!

Tina Childress is an educational audiologist who works in mainstream and residential school settings throughout Illinois. She has trained parents and professionals on a variety of topics related to hearing loss, sharing her expertise on cochlear implants, assistive technology, aural rehabilitation and the social/emotional impact of hearing loss. Tina is also a late-deafened adult with bilateral cochlear implants. She has a passion for mentoring, teaching and helping others navigate through the world of hearing loss and believes in paying it forward with her dual perspective as an audiologist and bilateral cochlear implant recipient.

We will provide CART and an ASL interpreter along with light refreshments. For further information about the May 12th meeting or our Northwest Indiana Hearing Loss Group, contact any of the following individuals:
